Fact sheet

What is Capodoku?

Capodoku is a deduction game for iPhone, a murder sudoku of sorts. On the floor plan of a crime scene divided into rooms, you place the suspects and the victim, one person per row and per column, following their clues. The killer is the only suspect sharing the victim's room. The first case file is entirely free; the other case files and the ad-free badges are one-time purchases, with no subscription.

How to play

Three rules, zero luck. Try them on the practice case, with the same kit as in the app.

  1. Read the floor plan

Thick walls split the scene into rooms. You can stand on some furniture (armchair, chair, rug); the rest blocks its square (piano, bookcase, plant).

  2. Place every person

Only one person per row and per column, and every clue respected. “Next to” means in the same room: a wall breaks contact.

  3. Unmask the killer

Once everyone is placed, the killer is the only suspect sharing the victim's room.

The Aldo affair

The Manor · Rookie · 4 × 4

0:00

Place: put down the chosen person's pawn.

Gina · the Daughter

Gina is sitting in an armchair.

Pick a person, then tap a square on the floor plan.

“Next to”: a square that touches by a side, in the same room. Corners don't count, and a wall always breaks contact.

Stuck? The reasoning, step by step
  1. There is only one armchair: Gina is in the living room, row 2, column 1. Nobody else can use her row or her column.
  2. Sal touches the bookcase, in the library: row 1, column 3, or row 2, column 4. Row 2 is taken: Sal is in row 1, column 3.
  3. Rosa touches the plant, in the conservatory: row 3, column 2, row 4, column 1, or row 4, column 3. Columns 1 and 3 are taken: Rosa is in row 3, column 2.
  4. Row 4 and column 4 are left: Aldo lies on the library rug. Sal is the only suspect with him.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Capodoku?

You place the suspects and the victim on the floor plan of a location, one person per row and per column, following each suspect's clue. Once everyone is placed, the killer is the only suspect sharing the victim's room.

What is a murder sudoku?

It is the nickname of this kind of puzzle. As in sudoku, every row and every column holds exactly one person, but you place suspects on the floor plan of a crime scene instead of digits, following their clues. Capodoku offers 120 of them per case file, each with a single solution.

Is the game free?

Yes. The whole Manor case file (120 cases), the daily case, “Check my grid” and 1 hint per day are free forever. You can earn extra hints with optional videos (+2 each, 3 a day), streak gifts and star chests. The other case files, the badges and the hint packs are optional.

How much do the purchases cost?

Everything is a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Badges: bronze for €4.99 (no more full-screen ads), silver for €9.99 (3 free hints a day) and gold for €17.99 (5 free hints a day and every case file, now and to come), each with the perks of the one before. Without the gold badge, each extra case file costs €4.99. Hint packs: 8 hints for €1.99, 20 hints for €3.99, 50 hints for €6.99, 100 hints for €12.99, 200 hints for €22.99 and 500 hints for €44.99.

Are there any ads?

Yes, light ones: never during a case and never a banner. Now and then, a full-screen ad appears when you leave the end screen of a case; any badge removes it. You can also watch a video to earn 2 hints, up to 3 times a day: it is always your choice, with or without a badge.

Do I need an internet connection to play?

No. Every case is already inside the app, which works fully offline. A connection is only needed for purchases, “Restore purchases” and the optional videos.

Does every puzzle really have one solution?

Yes. Every puzzle is checked by our solver before it enters the app, and any puzzle with more than one solution is rejected. It can be solved by pure logic, without guessing.

What data does the app collect?

No account, no name, no email. Your progress stays on your phone. RevenueCat, our purchase provider, receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase history. Google AdMob serves the ads (full-screen without a badge, optional videos for everyone) and receives technical information about the device, with your consent where the law requires it. Everything is detailed in the privacy policy.

When is the app coming out, and on which devices?

Capodoku is coming soon to the App Store, for iPhone, in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German.

Case file no. 1 is waiting for you.
